DESCRIPCIÓN

Material Composition and Standards

VitalLab Corian worktops are fabricated from genuine DuPont™ Corian® Solid Surface—the original solid surface material The material is a solid, nonporous, homogeneous surfacing composite consisting of approximately one-third acrylic resin (polymethyl methacrylate, or PMMA) and two-thirds natural minerals, primarily aluminum trihydrate (ATH) derived from bauxite. Color is consistent throughout the full thickness of the sheet—not just a surface coating—which means scratches and minor damage can be sanded and restored without compromising appearance.
Physical properties include a density of approximately 1.7–1.75 g/cm³ (ASTM D792 / ISO 1183) and UL94 5VA flammability certification. The material is recognized for its stability against bacteria and fungi under European standard DIN EN ISO 846, with LGA hygienic certification.

Nonporous, Hygienic Surface

Corian® is nonporous all the way through. There are no microscopic pores or surface voids where bacteria, mold, or mildew can establish themselves. With proper cleaning protocols, the surface resists bacterial colonization and inhibits the growth of mold and mildew. This makes Corian® particularly suitable for biological research labs, clinical diagnostics, pharmaceutical QC, and any environment where cross-contamination risk must be minimized.
The surface can be washed and disinfected repeatedly with common laboratory detergents and disinfectants without deterioration. Unlike materials with grout lines or mechanical joints, Corian® offers a virtually seamless surface that eliminates crevices where contaminants can accumulate.

Chemical and Stain Resistance

Corian® resists staining from a wide range of common laboratory reagents and agents. Documented resistance includes blood, plasma, Wright's stain, and X-ray development fluids. The surface is also resistant to most common chemicals encountered in routine laboratory work. For specialized chemical applications—particularly heavy organic solvents or concentrated aggressive acids—we recommend reviewing our chemical resistance guidelines or consulting with our technical team to confirm suitability.

Seamless Integration and Fabrication

One of Corian®'s defining advantages in laboratory settings is its ability to be fabricated into continuous, seam-free surfaces. We fabricate integrated sinks, backsplashes, side drainers, and work surfaces as a single homogeneous unit—eliminating joints where dirt, chemicals, or biological residues can accumulate. Sinks can be seamlessly undermounted or integrally formed, with no rims to trap contaminants.

The material can be thermoformed and shaped to accommodate curved benchtops, radiused corners, and custom contours. Standard sheet dimensions include 760 mm × 3658 mm (12 mm thickness) with select colors available in 6 mm and 19 mm thicknesses. Wider sheets up to 1524 mm are available in select colors and thicknesses.

Durability and Repairability

Corian® worktops are built for the long run. The surface withstands repeated washing, disinfection, and daily laboratory use without degradation. When scratches, burns, or stains do occur—and in active labs they eventually will—the damage can be repaired on-site.  Affected areas can be sanded and refinished without removing the worktop or disrupting laboratory operations. This repairability extends the service life of the installation significantly compared to laminate or coated surfaces that cannot be restored once damaged.
